Plant-e was founded on September 14, 2009 as a spin-off company from the sub-department of Environmental Technology from Wageningen University. During PhD research Marjolein Helder and David Strik founded the company and hired Nanda Heshof in September 2012. After Marjolein received her PhD degree, she and Nanda started working fulltime for Plant-e in January 2013. In the same year a large, paid research project started and Plant-e was able to grow to a team with 5 members: Marjolein, Nanda, Pim, Paulien and Daniël. In 2016 Jacqueline, Tim and Andy joined the team.
David is working as assistant professor at Wageningen University and is still an important link between scientific research and the R&D activities at Plant-e.

Characteristics of Plant-e
We are still developing and we would like to do this together with you! If there are any questions about our products we try to help you as soon as we can, and tips for improvement are always welcome.
Plant-e is very innovative and contributes to a better environment.
Our products are built with fascinating technology. A small construction already makes it possible to light a small LED! The larger the construction, the bigger the possibilities.
At Plant-e we think that together we are able to reach the highest goals. We are always willing to explore solutions that are most suitable for your situation.
Our teamBelow you can read about our team, seen from the eyes of colleagues.
Founder and CEO
Enthusiastic, motivated, optimistic and ambitious. Marjolein would build all our products with her own hands if it was necessary. She is direct and headstrong, but learns to listen to others and appreciates other opinions and input. It does not matter how big or small a success is, it is always celebrated with the whole team.
Positive, social, lively and responsible. Nanda always knows how to give something a positive twist and keeps the social balance in the team. She fills in the blanks that other people left open. If she promises to do something, it will be done, and she makes sure that others do the same.
Paulien van Straten
Cheerful, creative, modest, and organized. Paulien is the backbone of our team. She makes sure that agreements are kept and projects are finished. Without Paulien the DIY box wouldn’t be the same, and all the plants in our office would have bought a one-way ticket.
Pim de Jager
Smart, practical, driven and curious. Pim can be assigned to do scientific research and can be counted do to any type of do-it-yourself chore. Works hard, plays hard and likes to make fun of his direct colleagues. He always leaves his last zips of coffee.
Wise, calm, analytical and modest. Daniël thinks everything through thoroughly and comes with well-considered ideas and solutions. Being the Nestor of our team, Daniël patiently takes the time to explain to you (once more) how something works. His corny humour is not always understood by his colleagues.
Motivated, cheerful and concerned with the people around her. Jacqueline is able to keep a good overview where others might have lost it a little. Her function is on the background, being backoffice manager, but is prepared to push her limits and picks up knowledge fast, so she can support her colleagues. Daniël is eager to pass the title as team-elder to Jacqueline, but the rest of the team will not allow that to happen.
Teammanager workforce and junior projectworker
“Gezellig”, energetic and multi-functional. The laws of nature do not seem to apply on Tim: his energy-output is much higher than his energy-input. With a fair share of humor he is able to bring projects to a good end is certainly good for the atmosphere. By his direct colleagues Tim is described as perpetuum mobile.
Andrés (Andy) Riestra Perna
Enthusiastic, structured and helpful. Andy will help you, even before you’ve finished your sentence. He easily fits the team and adds to the “gezelligheid” and positive energy. Our (h)Andy(man) is a very hard worker, can work on his own as well as in a team, and is a strong addition to the team.
